Niseko United, is officially Japan’s #1 snow resort, located in Hokkaido, 2.5hrs drive from Chitose Airport. Comprised of 4 interlinked ski resorts – Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and An’nupuri – it is renowned for its consistency and quality of powder snow throughout the winter. Ranging from ski-in/ski-out to a shuttle bus ride away, most accommodations are with easy access to the ski lifts.
Niseko Resorts use an electronic lift pass system. The Niseko All Mountain Pass provides access to all 4 Resorts (Niseko Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and An’nupuri) as well as the Niseko United Shuttle service while Grand Hirafu Pass enables access to Niseko Hirafu and Hanazono Resorts only.
Off Piste Skiing
The off-piste skiing is well renowned and plentiful, within the resort areas and via side country and backcountry courses. There are 11 gates across the resorts with access to some of the best terrain and powder stashes.
One of the best kept secrets is the night skiing. Niseko has reputedly the largest lit area in Japan. This is the best time to go riding; when the mountain takes on a whole different perspective. The main runs are lit up at night and the light penetrates through the trees making for some challenging skiing or riding. A powder hound’s dream!
Lifts are open until 8.30pm every night of the week from mid-December to late March and night riding included on full day and consecutive day lift passes.
Niseko Base Snowsports (NBS)
A premier snow sports service and one stop shop for both lessons and rental. With fully certified, English speaking, experienced international instructors and rental equipment fitters to help you fully enjoy the powder Japan has to offer and experience the skiing or snowboarding holiday of your dreams.
Niseko Hirafu is the main village, with easy access to all the other resorts by mountain access or shuttle buses.
Dining / Nightlife
Hirafu Village is home to an abundance of cafe, restaurant and nightlife choices. Niseko Hirafu and the surrounding areas offer a wide range of dining options from traditional Japanese to French-Japanese fusion, steaks and a great choice of pizza and burger eateries. A trip to the local Kutchan Town for a real Japanese experience is also recommended.
Village Transport / Getting Around
There are two free village shuttles in Niseko Hirafu, to get you to and from chairlifts. The Niseko United Shuttle connects Hirafu Niseko, Niseko Village and An’nupuri Resorts. The Shuttle operates from the afternoon until the evening between the resorts and Kutchan Town.
There are some other local bus line options. For best convenience and to get further afield, taxis are readily available.
